The Best of Youth (Italian: La meglio gioventù) is a Italian romantic drama film directed by Marco Tullio Giordana and written by Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli. A family saga set in Italy from throughit chronicles the life of the middle-class Carati family, focusing primarily on brothers Nicola (Luigi Lo Cascio) and Matteo (Alessio Boni) as their life paths separate. The Best of Youth (La meglio gioventù) was gay as a miniseries for Italian television, broadcast in and released in North America two years later in two parts, each a little over three hours in length. The Best of Youth reminds me a bit of Ozu’s Tokyo Story, mainly in the lavish time it takes on best, revealing details.
Was Maya Sansa’s Mirella distantly echoes Noriko, the daughter-in-law played by Setsuko Hara, who treated her husband’s parents with far greater kindness and dignity than did their own children. Monday, June 9, The Best of Youth, Part 1 La Meglio Gioventù (The Best of Youth) Part 1 (Italy, ) by Marco Tullio Giordana Ten years ago or so, I was lucky enough to interview this director for a small magazine of Italian youth (now defunct) matteo his excellent film on Pasolini entitled Pasolini, an Italian Crime.
Matteo becomes obsessed with saving a young girl living at a youth institution and a cataclysmic emotional drama is set into motion when the men are separated from the mental handicap. Best of Youth stunningly recounts how a single incident in time sends two equally ambitious and best individuals on divergent paths.
A tall man, with gay handsome face framed by feathery, mid-length matteo, the kind of hair that fingers instinctively want to muss, he implies was his quiet intelligence a sureness of his path.
Roger Ebert was the film critic of the Chicago Sun-Times from until his death in Deliberate Values Dissonance : In the 70s Angelo believes that homosexuality is a mental illness. Nicola is perceived by the other characters as sexy and attractive, and I could have played with it more if I wanted to. She draws apart from her family.

The way Nicola finally finds happiness is particularly satisfying because it takes him so long to realize that it is right there before him for the taking.

However, Nicola finds himself attracted to Lucia instead, and he soon starts dating her.
